-Grassfed Tallow and Sesame Oil: Rich in vitamins A, K, E and D, these fats direct and drive calcium into the bone. They facilitate deep tissue repair, are anti-inflammatory, and protect the integrity of the mucous membranes of the mouth.
-Stinging Nettle Leaf: Provides alkalizing benefits along with a broad scope of trace minerals.
-Sage Leaf: Clears heat in the gums, fights bacteria & fungi, and reduces plaque.
-Oatstraw: A high source of bioavailable calcium, magnesium and silica— essential building blocks for the structure and strength of teeth. Contains avenanthramides, a powerful antioxidant with strong anti-inflammatory effects. As a demulcent herb, relieves dry mouth and oral irritation.
-Yucca Root: One of the highest sources of natural saponins, yucca provides cleansing power that is gentle and nourishing. It contains a high calcium and vitamin C content- vitamin C is essential for connective tissue health and gum integrity. Yucca also provides antibacterial benefits, helping to prevent plaque and tooth decay.
–Organic & Pastured Eggshell: Contains up to 98% bioavailable calcium, the essential mineral for tooth remineralization. Eggshell powder cleans without being abrasive, perfect for sensitive or soft tooth enamel. It is alkaline by nature, restoring the proper pH in the mouth so bacteria cannot thrive.
–Baking Soda: A modest amount in this recipe for alkalinity and additional gentle polishing.
–Xylitol: Extremely well known for its ability to prevent plaque formation. Adds a sweet taste that kids love.
–Cacao Powder: Rich in theobromine and polyphenols, cacao fights bacteria, reduces plaque, and most significantly, it actually hardens tooth enamel!
–Sweet Orange Essential Oil: Disrupts biofilms; high D-limonene content can lift surface stains from teeth; reduces gum inflammation; targets streptococcus mutans, the primary bacterial strain that causes cavities. I choose sweet orange essential oil for its microbiome modulating properties. Studies have shown it to increase beneficial bacteria like bifidobacterium and lactobacillus, while decreasing harmful bacteria and reducing inflammatory endotoxins. This makes it one of the few microbiome friendly essential oils! My kids absolutely love the flavor as well.
NOTES
It is my core value to create products that are safe and effective without any long term consequences! The herbs I use reflect my decision to utilize the plants which grow easily and abundantly in my locale. They are quadruple infused into the tallow and sesame oil, creating the highest potency possible (and a tedious production process).
*Due to the fatty base, it is helpful to rinse toothbrush bristles with hot water after each use to prevent buildup.
**While an overall creamy texture, you may encounter the occasional gritty bit. This is because I don’t have a professional grinder so stray eggshell bits occur here and there.
